About me
My journey as an artist began only a few years ago, after I had to step away from a 30-year career in book publishing due to health reasons. For decades, my world revolved around the written word as a Publisher’s Agent, leaving little time to explore creative pursuits of my own.
Then I enrolled in a class at Discoveries Art School in Christchurch, run by the immensely talented New Zealand artist Diana Nicholson-Plank, and I haven’t looked back.
It was one of the best decisions of my life.
Diana has become my teacher, mentor, and friend. I still attend her classes and likely will for as long as she’ll have me. They remain the highlight of my week, a space where we chat, laugh, experiment, and paint.
Through these classes, I’ve developed my own style, built confidence, and explored a range of techniques. What began as a hobby has grown into a deep and abiding passion. I’ve taken over the spare room at home as my studio - messy, cramped, and absolutely perfect for creating.
I work mainly in acrylics, inspired by landscapes that feel both familiar and quietly forgotten. I paint from memory and imagination, searching not for photographic accuracy but for essence - the emotional imprint of a place.
We all carry certain landscapes and moments within us. A vast panorama. A tiny detail. A fleeting instant that captures the feeling of a time and place. These are the moments I seek to translate onto canvas.
They may evoke longing, loss, peace, or joy, but above all, they hold stillness.
